How to become a Registered Member
Members in the Full Membership category are referred to as Registered M&V Professionals with the CMVPSA. It is important to note that only persons registered as M&V Professionals with the CMVPSA can become Full Members. Student and Associate Membership categories are open to a wider membership application base with different requirements than that of Full Membership, see Membership Categories link.
Below are the training and experiential requirement steps to follow for Full Membership application.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
STEP1: Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) course
- Should you already be a CMVP according to the certification process administered by the Efficiency Valuation Organisation (EVO) and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), proceed to the STEP 2: FUNDAMENTALS OF M&V IN SOUTH AFRICA COURSE below – Provisional Membership can be applied for at in this step – see note below*.
- Non-CMVP’s must attend the CMVP course, or equivalent course approved by CMVPSA;
- Pass exam and professional evaluation process;
- A successful evaluation process will admit the membership applicant to international certification with the AEE and EVO, thereafter proceed to the STEP 2: FUNDAMENTALS OF M&V IN SOUTH AFRICA COURSE below and see note* on Provisional Membership.

NOTE ON FULL AND PROVISIONAL MEMBERSHIP: Provisional Membership status may be applied for by current CMVP’s prior to ‘STEP 2: Fundamentals of M&V in South Africa course’ and will progress to Full Membership on completion of STEP 2.
STEP 2: Fundamentals of M&V in South Africa course
- Attend the Fundamentals of M&V in South Africa course, as approved by the CMVPSA, which covers the fundamentals of energy metering, data handling, legislation and policies in the SA content and relevancy;
- Pass exam;

EXPERIENTIAL AND APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
STEP 3: Membership submission requirements
- Send a profile of your M&V experience to info@cmvpsa.org.za. The Registration committee of the CMVPSA will evaluate your practical experience in M&V.
- Complete the Registration Application form for a Full Member/Provisional Member and submit it to info@cmvpsa.org.za with your Profile of M&V experience submission.
- On receipt of your M&V profile of experience submission and your Registration Application form you will receive:
- 1) An invoice for the application fee of R 2,750-00 (for evaluation of experience), and;
- 2) The Code of Conduct which needs to be signed and returned.
STEP 4: Successful membership registration
- Successful membership applicants will be advised by email that they are Registered as a Full Member with CMVPSA;
- With this notification you will receive an invoice for the annual Registration of Full Membership/Provisional fee of R 2,500-00/year (If Full Membership/Provisional Membership is received after associate membership fee has been paid, only the difference of R 1,500-00 will be invoiced);
- Full Membership status as Registered CMVPSA member is published on website.
